NHS Podcast

I created a didactic podcast to teach people more about exercise and healthy eating. To find out what my audience would want to know more about I set up a Google Form asking one question, 'what questions do you have about exercise or eating healthy?' which allows us to engage with the audience. I thought a podcast would be a great form of media because it allows the audience to listen to it whenever and wherever they are. Plus there are a variety of platforms that a podcast can be uploaded on so the audience can use their preferred platform to listen to the podcast In this podcast, there had two hosts, me and Henry. Once the questions were in, we did research on each question so we were prepared to answer the questions and produce the podcast. Before we recorded our podcast, I suggested that we do it in an uplifting and relaxed tone of voice as this will help grab the audience's attention and motivate them to be relaxed and inspired as they listen. When editing the audio, we only cut out the parts where there was no audio and nothing was going on.

I thought that creating a Q and A type of podcast would be a great way to promote the Better Health campaign because not only does it help people have a better understanding of getting active, the audience will know more about becoming more active as well as knowing how to eat right while exercising. If the audience learns how to become more active, they will be more motivated because they know what they're doing.

NHS Better Health - Get Active

Before I started the production of this advert, we had to create a storyboard and a script. I thought the best plan of action was to create the storyboard first so then it would help keep the order in the script. After that, I had to do a personnel list, resource list, risk assessments, location scout, location release form, and a contributors release form. Once we had everything signed, we were able to start the production process.

We had a lot of complications when trying to shoot this advert. One of them was due to the weather as we filmed this in December so it was cold and it unexpectedly started to snow so doing external wasn't going to be able to happen. I decided to move all the shots indoors as it was warmer for the actors and film crew. Another problem I had was that some of our film crew was not able to make it to the location due to unexpected changes so I had to work with the people that we had. Once we had everything sorted, we were able to start filming

When filming we added a variety of different shots such as; medium close-ups, close-ups, low-angles, medium shots, high angles, over-the-shoulder shots, bird's eye angles, POV shots, and long shots. For each shot that we took, we made sure to take a few of the same. When it came to editing the advert, I started to create a basic outline of the advert by adding the clips to the timeline on Premier Pro. I started to cut all the parts that I didn't need and I added the audio. After I did that I wanted to experiment with the software. I went onto youtube and research what I can edit and how to do it. This made the outcome of the video so much better. I then added the final touches like transitions and the outro. Once I did that, I exported the video and uploaded it to YouTube to place into my blog. I also decided to get some feedback on it and I got a lot of positive responses as well as what I could change or edit.

Evaluation

At the beginning of the project, I was given a brief to promote NHS's new campaign, Better Health. Once I was given the brief, I started to do some client research to get a better understanding of who they are and what they do. The knowledge that I gained from the research helped me get a better understanding of what I am doing as well as gave me guidance on what I can do for this project. After that, I started to do some research into their new campaign Better Health. This gave me a better understanding of what the campaign is about and what they're aiming to achieve. I was also curious about other campaigns they have done and see if I can spot any similarities or differences between them. I learned that they have produced a lot of print adverts for their campaigns and not a lot of TV adverts or radio adverts so I felt like creating a TV advert and a radio advert. After looking into the client, the campaign, and past work, I decided to move on to looking at the requirements.

One of the requirements for the brief was to produce a creative response to one of the three themes of the Better Health Campaign; Get Active, Lose Weight, and Quit Smoking. I choose to do Get Active because while doing research, staying active has been difficult for everyone since Covid-19 due to the restriction and lockdown so I thought this was a perfect theme to promote for the campaign. We also thought about creating a podcast because I know that some people prefer to listen to podcasts over music when relaxing, cleaning, or just going for a nice walk. We also chose to do an advert because a lot of people watch TV or YouTube and adverts show up all the time so we knew that this would be something that would get seen.

Another requirement for this brief was to aim for the target audience: 16 - 20-year-olds. This is where I came up with the idea to include TikTok because all people in that age range use TikTok and are on that app daily. Not only does it fit the age range but it also fits with the theme that I am going for. A lot of TikTok users created many different dances, some are easy and some are a bit more difficult but it helps you get active. They have also created exercise challenges or routines for people to do and recommend products that help, like the weighted hoola-hoop that has been quite popular. Not only is it easy to access, but you can also choose what works best for you due to health problems that make it difficult for you to do extreme things or if you don't like going to the gym due to confidence. I learned from the focus group that people don't stay active because of health problems, lack of motivation, confidence, or money. This also helped with the TikTok idea because you can do it in the comfort of your own home and it doesn't cost anything.

Throughout this whole project, I have learned a lot. I have learned that being organised, planning, teamwork, and creating a schedule and shot list was very important. I felt like I wasn't as organised as I should be, especially since I didn't create a shot list which I think would've made the production process a bit more organised than it was. I also think that I should've come up with backup plans for different scenarios that had or could've happened so that I would be able to change the plan of action. I also think that I could've planned out how long I wanted it to be and make sure I can create a shorter advert than it is now.

Overall, I have learned and developed different skills in this project like ways to edit sound and colour that are more advanced, learning different areas of Premier Pro and how I can use them, and learning new camera skills and how to create different types of shots, angles, and continuity. I have also learned how to do screenwriting. This will help me with future projects as I have the knowledge I need to create better products.
