Evaluation
At the beginning of this project, I was given a brief to promote Canon's new product around the theme of Journeys for their campaign. Once I was given the brief, I began to do some client research to develop an understanding of who Canon was and what they do. This gave me guidance on what I am doing as well as starting to generate ideas for this project. Once I did some research into the client, I wanted to see what advertising products Canon has produced to promote other products and I wanted to see if they had a certain type of way they liked to promote products or if there were any differences in each product. They have produced a variety of advertisements like print adverts, magazine covers and advertorials. The print adverts had a lot of similarities and the same with the magazine covers but there weren't a lot of advertorials which tells me that it wasn't a popular form of media. This is what lead me to go with creating a print advert and a magazine cover. After looking more into the client, I looked into the requirements.
One of the requirements for the brief was to create a Canon magazine front cover and a print advert or an advertorial. As mentioned, I choose to do a magazine front cover and a print advert because from my research there was a variety but there weren't many advertorials which told me that an advertorial wasn't the most popular form of media and was the least used. Another requirement was that our target audience was 15 to 25-year-olds. This is what gave me the idea to include some social media in the projects because a lot of people in that age range are constantly on their phones going through social media. Not only does this idea include other audiences, but it gives a wider range of people that will look at the adverts produced.
Throughout this project, I have learned and developed a lot of skills. My organisation and planning skills have developed as well as my time management and problem-solving skills. These skills are very important in the media industry as being organised will have you work productively as well as help you with time management skills. If you're organised, you know everything that you're going to be doing as well as who is involved, the locations that you will need as well as making sure you know the hazards of the locations and you know what to do when something goes wrong. Problem-solving is also another important skill as a lot of things can go wrong but when you have this skill, you know how to work around it and, if needed, you know how to change the plan of action. From this project, I have learned how to use photoshop which is a new skill for me. I have never used photoshop until this project and I have learned how to use the tools and what they do and how I can use them and edit different things. This has helped me feel more confident when it comes to using photoshop as I now have a better understanding.
